The woolly mammoth, an extinct species of elephant, fossil deposits dating back to the Pleistocene and Holocene epochs in Europe, northern Asia, and North America. These massive creatures were recognised for their large size, fur, and impressive tusks. Flourishing during the Pleistocene ice ages, woolly mammoths eventually became extinct due to the loss of much of their habitat as Earth's climate warmed following the last ice age.
