The Giant Blue Swallowtail belongs to the Papilionidae family of butterflies. The name of this stunning species originates from the god Zalmoxis who was worshipped by the Getae people of the lower Danube in the 6 century AC.

Its wingspan reaches 12-16 cm and it is the second largest African Swallowtail butterfly.
