A magnificent Alpine Black Swallowtail butterfly in a handmade wooden frame mounted on high-quality acid-free conservation board. The Latin and common names are printed underneath the specimen. This is the smaller and brighter spring form of the summer form Papilio Maackii.
The Alpine Black Swallowtail belongs to the Papilionidae family of butterflies. A stunning metallic blue and green Swallowtail butterfly. Very impressive and is rarely offered. They can often be seen sucking nectar from flowers growing along streams deep in the mountains of Japan. The species was named by Menetries in 1859
Its wingspan reaches 6–7 centimetres (2.5–3.5 in).
