Pygocentrus nattereri or also known as the Red-bellied piranha is a species of piranha from South America that can be found in the Amazon, Paraguay, Parana and Essequibo. These fish are omnivorous foragers and feed in insects, worms, crustaceans and fish. These Fish usually travel in shoals as a predatory defence, however rarely exhibit group hunting behaviour. Red-bellied Piranha has developed a reputation for being a ferocious predator, although this is not actually the case. These fish are popular aquarium fish.
