Thick layers of Aragonite leads to shades of red being observed as you can see in this amazing fossil. Ammonites are an extinct group of marine mollusc that lived hundreds of millions of years ago. Starting as very small sea creatures, as they evolved and grew, so did the shell making these magnificent fossils.
